What is the Point?
The objective of Point∙e is to provide the means for an active dialogue among members of different European nations about the things that matter today: perspectives, ideas, politics, culture—the world around us. English was chosen as the sole language of Point∙e not with the intention of excluding other languages or nations, but as a lingua franca, a method of communication many of us can share, parallel to our different languages or nationalities.
Across Europe—and across much of the world—boundaries are crumbling. The European Union has gone a long way in erasing the borders that once separated one country from another. The continent has seen an explosion in multilingualism, which has allowed for greater ease with communication. And technology has created a global community in which point of location matters far less than point of view. But despite these changes, no amount of technology or mobility can wipe away a person’s sense of place—the identity that is established by an individual’s culture, personality, and surroundings.
Point∙e was established as an attempt to explore this intermingling of nationalities and to connect people across Europe through a common exchange. By bringing together different aspects of traditional media, blogging, and citizen journalism, Point∙e seeks to understand the events taking place in Europe through the voices that experience them.
